FREQUENCY OF ZEESEN

The German station, Zeesen, is working on a frequency of 182 kilo hertz, which is separated by 10 kilohertz only from the frequency in use by Daventry 5XX, 192 kilo- hertz. Unless some form of direc tive aerial system is employed, such as a suitably designed frame

aerial, it is not possible, in dis- tricts where there is no preponder ing signal from 5XX, to render a set sufficiently selective to receive 5XX free from interference by Zee- sen without seriously impairing the quality of reproduction.

A conference is to be held shortly at which the Governments of coun- tries concerned will be represented

in order to discuss the recommen-

dations of the Union International de Radiophonie concerning the al- lotment of these ether channels and the degree of separation necessary between such channels. It can only be hoped, therefore, that an improvement may be looked for in the present situation.

A small home cinema machine was operated in the City whilst the voices, instrumental music, &c., were transmitted from a studio some miles distant, and were re- ceived in exact synchronism with the pictares. The effect was so striking and the demonstration se successful that the question of in- cluding Radioscope transmissions in the B.B.C. programmes was forthwith placed under official con- sideration. TO BAR FILIPINOS

UNFAIR COMPETITION WITH AMERICANS

Sacramento, Calif., May 15. The State Senate, as one of its final acts before adjournment, to day passed the Filipino exclusion resolution introduced by Assem- blyman E. G. Aftams. The measure already had been adopted by the Assembly.

The resolution memorializes con- gress to exclude Filipinós from the United States or at least to sharp- ly restrict their immigration to this country. It asserts that un- restricted Filipino immigration causes unjust and unfair competi- tion with American labour and that it nullifies the results to be expected from the national policy of restric tive immigration.

The Senate adopted the measure without debate Associated Press.
