KENT DEFEAT CEICESTER SHIRE EASILY

WIN FOR DERBYSHIRE

London, Yesterday, In the match against Kent, at Leicester, Lejcestershire took first lease of the wicket, but could muster a score of only 99.

Kent responded with 133 runs. In the second innings Leicester-¦ shire scored 109, the play being marked by a remarkable bowling feat by A. P. Freeman, who ac- counted for no fewer than seveni wickets for only 11 runs.

This left Kent with the modest score of 76 to get to win, and this they did without losing a wicket. They thus won by 10 wickets.

Derbyshire v. Hampshire In their match at Portsmouth against Derbyshire Hampshire batted first and scored 110 runs. T. B. Mitchell was mainly respon- sible for the score being kept down, as he captured six wickets at the cost of 42 runs.

Hampshire, in their second ven-

ture, scored only one run more than in their first innings, name- ly, 111.

Left with 122 runs to ensure victory, Derbyshire did the need- ful after five wickets had fallen, then winning the match by five, wickets. Reuter.

ROWING

TIENTSIN'S INTERPORT CREWS

FOR SHANGHAI

Referring to the interport crews being sent by Tientsin to compete in the Shanghai Spring Regatta, the "North China Standard" says: A general marked improvement in the right has been noticed dur- ing the last few days, but there is stil one bad fault remaining, and that is in the recovery, which is far too slow. This is particularly brought out when a faster rate of stroking is attempted. There is also a tendency to hang before en- tering the water at the beginning of the stroke. On a recent Satur- day afternoon a long row to a point about eight miles down river and back was undertaken. The paddle back against wind and tide was a really creditable performance. The excellent physical condition of the crew was well demonstrated by the way in which this row was accom- plished. Little work has so far been done in the four which has been provisionally selected as fol lows: H. Rothkehl, Bow; H. Weleken, 2; R. Wickerson, 3; C. Morton, Stroke.

It is thought. Miss Eileen Bennett may have to undergo an operation for tonsilitis.

needed in Kowloon.

Walter Spence swam the 300-yd. medley Just 3 and 2-5 seconds faster than anyone else ever did to win the event in the National championships - being held in New York. His time was 3 minutes and 40 seconds flat.
