LAWN BOWLS
DEFEAT OF THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
CS.C.C. CONQUER
The Craigengower C.C., cham- pions in Division I, of the Lawn Bowls League, received a rade shock at the hands of the Civil Service CC. (last year's wooden spoonists), to whom they went under by 20 shots on Saturday.
That rather indescribable quan- tity, commonly known as "fluke." played no part in the result of this game, the victory of the Civil Servants being well deserved.
The Kowloon Dock R.C. lost on their own ground to their dock rivals Taikoo.
DON'T WASTE
WATER!
A feature of the Second Divi- sion fixtures was the close con- test between the Civil Service and the Kowloon Bowling Green Club, at Happy Valley, the home team winning after a magnificent struggle by the narrowest possi ble margin of one shot.

No Spectacular Promises Mr. Stanley Baldwin's election address reiterates his refusal to make spectacular promises. He lays down a comprehensive pro- gramme to stimulate trade by the creation of permanent employment.
He declares that there will be no general tarifi, but all industries may seek gafeguarding providing that the taxation of food is not involved. He will continue to promote Imperial preference, to which the Empire, which to-day is our best customer, has appreciatively responded, but "We regard the employment of Bri- tieh capital and the finance of Bri- tish enterprise as likely to prove more a fruitful investment than speculative loans or the guarantees
of a
foreign Government which squanders its own resources on a futile war against capitalism and has up to now shown neither a friendly disposition toward Great Britain nor a readiness to recognise its past obligation."
