The Chief Confectioner or the Canadian Pacific Liner Empress of Scotland decorated the buffet of that ship's Dining Saloon by making a scale model of the 25,000 ton ship entirely of sugar. Harry Astley designer and builder constructed the ship in his spare time-spread over five days-and is planning to enter a scale model of the new Canadian Pacific hotel in Toronto, the Royal York, at the next exhibition in London. He already holds two cups as the prize decorator in star at the annual competitions held by the American Hotelmon's Association in New York. These entitle him to the title American Champion-which is absurd, because Harry, like Canadian Pacific sailors whether they are on the bridge or in the bakery, is from Liverpool.

The move was made to save operating: cx- penses of $300,000 a year and to allow the nine officers and 148 en listed men of the crew to be available for new naval crafta soon to be floated. The "Mayflower was built in Scotland in 1897 for Ogden Goelet, but was commandeered and purchased during the Spanish-American War and became one of the masquito fleet.
