FRENCH SANCTION?
THE CHINA MAIL,
Captain H. Madsen, master, of the s.3. "Tai Fook Sing," appeared before Commander G. F. Hole R.N.! (retired) at the Marine Court this morning in answer to a charge lodged by Boarding Officer C. H. Thompson of unlawfully arriving in the Colony from Singapore with more than twelve passengers, and with failing to comply with the pro- visions in certain ordinances re- garding passengers' transporta- tion.
Capt. Madsen pleaded guilty, but Mr. Horace Lo, (who appeared for the owners) said that he had had instructions from them to plead "not guilty."
In view of this fact, he asked His Worship formally to remand the case, for beyond baing instructed to plead, he (Mr. Lo). did not know. anything further of the case.
