(108TH YEAR OF SOCIETY'S

WORK

The 108th annual report was pre- sented by the board of management of the Seamen's Hospital Society to the annual Court of Governors of this old corporation at the Chamber of Shipping, St. Mary Axe, London, E.C.

Captain Sir Arthur Clark, the chairman, said that the number of beds in the society's seven establish- ments now amounted to 627. The shipbuilding industry In Scot- land made quite a good start in the month of January, and besides launch- ing an average number of vessels during the month, there were book- ed at least 18 contracts of one kind and another. Messrs. Bow, McLachlan and Com- pany, Paisley, have booked an order to build an 300-ton oil tanker for the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company, for service in Australia.
