BJ. Apear Line steamers have excellent accommodation for 184

and 2nd class passengers. All steamers are fitted with wireless and carry a qualified surgeon.

The Cowpen Dry Docks and Ship- building Co., Ltd., Blyth, state that the dry docks have been fairly well employed during the past twelve months, and many extensive hull and engine repairs have been carried out. The yard is particularly well equip ped for this class of work, as apart from the six shipbuilding berths and deep-water jetty, there are five dry docka

(up to 180ft. long), and the works are fitted throughout with elec- trical and pacunatic machinery, The iron and brass foundries belonging to the company have also been well em- played, and it is hoped to obtain a share of the new orders in the market.

During the past year Metars. Menzies and Co., Ltd., have effected re- pairs on upwards of 350 vessels, in Leith and Granton. Approximately 40 and auxiliary motorships. About one were foreign-owned, including sailing
