DEATH OF LABOUR LEADER

London, Saturday." The death has occurred of Mr. Stephen Walsh, M.P., who was War Minister in the Ramsay MacDonald regime.-Reuter.

[Mr. Walsh was member for the Ince Division, Lance, since 1906; had been agent of the Lancashire and Cheshire Miners' Federation since 1901. In 1922 he was vice- president of the Miners' Federation. He was born in Liverpool in 1889. At 14 he began his 18 yeare' work as a coalminer. From 1917 to 1919 he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Government Board. Early in the war he, with his colleagues of the Lancashire Miners' Federa- tion, helped to raise the Pioneer Battalions. His son joined one of Test these battalions and was killed.]
