A hawk perched on the spire of St. Martin-in-the-Field Church, by Trafalgar-square, and its terrifying presence prevented a vast flock of starlings from taking up their usual lodging for the night.

Hundreds of people stood as- tonished at the amazing antics of the starling flock, which wanted to settle on the spire, but were too alarmed to do so.
