T.K.K. TO BORROW NECESSARY FUNDS

...

The Toyo Kisen Kaisha has announce ed the proposed construction of two ¡Diesel-engined ships, each off 10,000 tons for trans-Paclic freight service, says the Japan Advertiser." The Com- pany has the understanding of the Yasuda Bank to borrow the neccesary funds totalling about Y3,300,000, ac- cording to an official of that company, The official told a representative of the "Japan Advertiser" that the com pany had not yet decided where to construct them, as the matter is to be Axed by the directors.

The Tayo Kisen several years ago sold all of its passenger ships to the Nippon Yusen Kaisha. Since then the company with remaining 10 froighters of 68.000 tons has been working the trans-Pacific and ather deep-sea ser- vices. The company has not yet realis- ed very satisfactory business results but has been placed on a paying basis. The proposed construction of Diesel-en- gined ships heralds the adoption of a more active shipping polley by the com- pany, it is understood.

The development of Diesel-engined in recent years is ships in Japan attracting the attention of shipping circles. Leading steamship companies mostly order motor ships to meet the situation where Diesel-engined shipa are supreme.

Japan at present has only about 10 such abips, of which sight are being operated. These ships and the num jber of deck officers and engineers fol-
