TWO MORE SUBMARINES
Yet another link has been forged between the Navles of Great Britain and Chile. Two submarines, the "Capitan Thompson" and the "Almirant Simpson," have been; launched at the Vickers-Armstrong yard at Barrow. These names have an English sound, and their sister named after the gallant ship is Captain O'Brien, who, with Lord. Cochrane, joined the Chilean. Navy in 1818. O'Brien was killed while boarding the Spanish frigate "Esmeralda," and for over a century Chile has named a number of her warships after him and after other Englishmen. She has thus shown her gratitude to the brave hand of British seamen who, under Lord Cochrane, did so much to help the young Republic to throw off the yoke of Spain.
Serving for Britain
The "Chilean Fleet" consists al-,: most entirely of British-built ships. The only battleship, the "Almirante Latorre," was completing in Eng- lond when war broke out. She absorbed into the British Navy, served in the "Grand Fleet" name of Canada, and under the fought at Jutland.

HONG KONG TIDE.
The tide-table given below has been obtained by sid of the Tide-predicting Machina, which includes 40 components for the better prediction of tides, from the result of the analysis of the tidal observations, taken at the Kaulung Hirial observatory under the direction of Dr. Doberek during the years 1887, 1888 and 1889.
The times and heights are given for Kaulung: but they may be used for the Victoria Noval Yard and Aber- deen, the differences being very, small. Tha. times of high-and low-water must not be considered to coincide with the times of slack-water and change of currant, the two phenomena being quite distinct.
