Stratford-on-Avon. — A definito announcement may" be made regarding the Shakespeare Mem- orial Theatre which is to be bullt here in place of the one destroyed by fire in March 1926.

The executive committee hopes It may be possible to have the foundation stone laid on Shakes- peare's birthday, April 23. This is contingent upon the acceptance at one of the tenders now sub- mitted.

Plans for the new theatre, by Miss Elisabeth Scott, of Hampstead, N.W., were accepted a year ago. The fund for its erection then Amounted to £240,000.
