MY BEAUTY RECIPE

Early to bed.

No parties

No cosmetics.

Plenty of exercise.

Those four things go to make up my recipe.for a beautiful face and an attractive figure.

I am so set in my mind that those factors are essential to good looks that I am occasionally the butt of humorists and have been called a 'prim old maid.'

I'm not old,

neither am I prim but I believe that I have some intelligence, that I am right in keeping myself ft by following a rigid gymnastic conrse.

At nine o'clock every evening, whether I am working, or not, little Mary is in her bed. I generally

out the lights. I refrain from any social affairs in the evening, but at- tend many afternoon functions dur- ing my between pictures period.

I was born lucky, as regards the need for cosmeties. During the early part of my life, I lived in Texas, where I rode and kept in the open as much as possible. That put a glow in my cheeks which has never vanished, because I still love the open and will stroil for hours through the parks of Los Angeles and Hollywood-or In the country where fruit trees. are blossoming. Whether I am different from other girls or not, I do not know, but I will say that when I am away from the studios and the cameras lip stick, rouge or powder never touch my face.

Those long walks give me some exercise, but not, enough, and at least half an hour every day is devoted to strenuous workouts in the studio gymnasium, where I have learned to handle the Indian clubs like a professional, and I also fence.

Girls, keep regular hours; get to bed early, and rise early; don't cover your face with powder and rouge, and exercise and you'll never regret it.

COLOURED PHOTOS

A FEATURE OF “WEDDING MARCH"

All the splendour of European court life, almost overwhelming in its lavish richness, is shown in Erich von Stroheim's first Par amount picture, The Wedding March," produced in Los Angeles under the sponsorship of P. A. Powers.

Some of the most colourful

the scenes acreen are promised in "The the Wedding March." and added fact that many of them have been reproduced in colour photo graphy insures that theatre-goer's will see them in all the gorgeous- ness

of the originals. The glit. tering pageantry of the Austrian court at Vienna is shown in sharp. contrast to the sordid life of the peasants-for von Strohelm has not entirely; abandoned his penchant for stark, sodden realism.

In "The Wedding March" the famous director also plays the lead- ing role of Prince Nickl, described as "neither a hero nor a villain, but a combination of the two"--an average human being who is a true product of his environment.

Von Stroheim's picture has an ex- cellent supporting cast including Fay Wray, Zasu, Pitts, Dale Fuller, Maude George, George Fawcett, Matthew Betz, George Nichols, Hughie Mack, Cesare Gravina and Sydney Bracey.

RUSSIAN ACTRESS

PLAYS OPPOSITE JACK HOLT IN WESTERN PICTURE

Baclanova's first Western screen role shows her as a dancer in Zane Grey's dramatic Paramount picture, "Avalanche," adapted from his for bleth novel of frontier life.

The towering mountains of the Painted Desert of Arizona were furthest from the thoughts of the noted Russian actress when she was a player with the Moscow Art Theatre. Even when she signed a long term contract at the Paramount studios in Hollywood, she had no Idea that she would ever be placed among real cowboys and real, live Indians.

Except for the difficulty she en- countered in accustoming herself to breathing in 18,000-fcol altitude at which Jack Holt, Doris Hill, her- self and other members of the worked for "Avalanche" company three weeks, Baclanova enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

Emil Jannings" "The Street of Sin," Pola Negri's "Threo Sinners,"

and George "Forgotten Faces" Bancroft's "The Docks of New York" are pictures in which she has scored heavily.
