Later in the hearing a difficulty arose over a message sent from the Harbour Office to the Water Police Station. Mr. Thompson, of the Harbour Office, when re examined, stated positively that he called the station between 5.30 and 5.40 a.m., and said the "Esine wah" had sunk. The Sergeant on duty that night, however, deposed that the message was received at 5.15 a.m., and that it merely stat- ed that a ship was in distress north of Waglan. He received no message saying the vessel had aunk,
