DOCTOR
HER ESCAPE"
Marila, Jan. 10.
The Intelligence office of the con- stabulary started yesterday inves- tigating a case of slavery in which a Chinese girl is said to have been sold to a Filipino physician in Nueva Ecija. The girl served for more than one year without pay: according to the complaint filed yesterday with Colonel Clarence H. Bowers, acting chief of the con- stabulary intelligence division.
The girl was the victim of the ¡Chinese civil war. Her father and mother having died, she consented to be taken to Manila about two years ago by a local Chinese. A few days after arrival, she was sold for a paltry sum to another Chinese, and later resold to the ¡Nueva Ecija physician. She aery- ed her Filipino master for a year, and it was only recently that ake escaped..
The constabulary is investigating with the view to discovering the Identity of the Chinese who brought her to the Philippines and sold her. The matter was referred yesterday afternoon to the city fiscal's office for action.
