ful style of any fighter at presont before the public, and he affects ways calculated to put even a world- beater out of his stride. He had Jacovacci handcuffed. There those who might urge that Johnson carries defence too far. I think he does. In this regard he is worse than Roland Todd was. It may be said that he fiddles rather than fights his way to success. Jacovacci, after the fifth round, could make nothing of him.
There may be some referees who would be critical of Johnson on the score of holding, but it is not. easy for the presiding official to make a case out against him. For Johnson is one, of the most skilful fellows who ever drew on a glove. If he holds he does it at any rate so cleverly that not even an 'expert could detect him. I'll warrant the majority of the six thousand people who looked en believed that it was Jacovacci who was doing most of the holding.
I would not rate Len Johnson loo highly, but I have to say that in many particulars he reminds me of Jack Johnson in the way in which he finds it possible to take the sting out of the other fellow and to get him all tangled up. His judgment
of distance is positively uncanny; his belief in himself supreme. He is one of the most self-contained fighters I have seen for years. But, with many of those who were at. Manchester, I doubt whether he will become a world-beater. He has, not the punch to account for such aloggera as Mickey Walker. He cannot even hit as hard as Jacovacci. But he is much of a wonder, never theless, and, I can understand his great popularity in his native Man-
Bantam Belt.

The limit for the race has been set at 1 am. of Friday, December 28, but with anything like a breeze ݦ anticipate the first boat being hack near to midnight of Boxing Day.
With the "Time on Time" sys- tem of handicapping, a close finish will probably result, and I rather fancy "Queen Bee," Là Cigale," "Feathers"-if there be n good breeze. "Coquette," if! the wind is N.
