Enchanting Scenes
On the whole, however, the work of adaptation has been tactfully done, and the result is a refined and pretty entertainment, which owes much to the Imaginative | beauty of Mr. George Sheringham's" costumes and settings. Quite en- chanting, in particular, his Throne Room, execution scene, and magic wood-in which we are given a delightful reminder of "Les Syl- phides," without, Chopin's music, it is true, but with something quite | graceful in place of it.
Mrs. Marillier, a newcomer to the small ranks of women composers, would seem to have taken "The Beggar's Opera" as a model for some of her music. CHINA NEWS. LOCAL NEWS
AND ALL THE NEWS
SEND IT HOME!
Just at a time when most people were hoping for a revival in trade came the news that some Chinese in Western China,, having engendered a boycott of things Japanese, had intimidated stevedores, into refraining from working a British ship's cargu. For once, immediate steps are being taken to prevent an impasse.
It is essential that British merchants in Hong Kong and China should do their duty to themselves by bringing such
· facts Home to everybody at Home. ·
Only this week, there have been further instances of ignorance of the situation out here-as evidenced in the tacit approval of Mr. F. Hussey-Freke's acquiescing in, Nationalist China's seizure of the Salt funds.
The "Overland China Mail""'contains an indictment of the Foreign Office policy. Send it Home to be read as widely as possible. It is the only illustrated weekly budget of "local" and "China" news published in Hong Kong. As such, it must be the best reading matter for friends in other parts of the world who evince-interest in China.

What you have to say for yourself no one else can write for you; but if you want to ease anxiety as to what is hap pening out here that is a task that the Overland China Mail" will do for you as it has invariably done in the past.
How many times were you stumped when somebody.. asked you about conditions in China? Show that you are at least thoughtful by sending them a copy of the "Overland.” That will tell them all they want to know.
