Taking a general survey of the situation, it is difficult to predict with any certainty the Immediate future trend of the market, yet it la permissible, viewing past and present conditions, to foresee no very sharp upward or downward fluctuations in the near future until the situation will shape Itself In one way or the other in a more decided manner, and conservatism should therefore, be the keynote of any operations entered into at the present time.

hand of the London Iron and Steal
Exchange:-
The autumn demand for iron and steel is developing fairly satisfactorily, and the tone of the meetings on the London Iron and steal Exchange of late have been characterized by a distinctly optimistic feeling. A great deal of the improvement in the market position can be traced to the activity in the Continental steel markets and to the steady up ward movement in the prices' of Continental Ameri-
steel material. British buyers of Continental steel, however, are showing little inclination to pay the present prices, but, on the other hand, the Continental works are appar- ently extremely well off for orders, and are in a position to regard the British market with indifference.
On the local Cotton Exchange, Cotton is down about 60 candareens per plcul for near months and slightly up for forward months.
