Liangchow, (Kangu), When Joseph Hou, a domestic of the Catholic missioners at Suechow, Kansu, China, started on an errand to Kanchow, a three days fourney through lonely mountain passes in-

His errand accomplished in Kan- chow, Joseph was hurrying home ward on the lonely road when he was startled by voices to the rear of him. Turning suddenly he beheld a large wolf chased at some distance by a wildly gesticulating crowd. In the wolf's mouth. was an infant.
