FIGHT ON A SHIP

WHARF ROBBERS' GANG AT WUHU

SEVERAL OF CREW WOUNDED

THE CHINA MAIL,

When the British as. "Tuckwo" arrived in Shanghai from Hanhow fon Oct. 22, it was learned that the vesach has again been in trouble on the Yangtze River' and, on this ocension, several members of the crew were injured in a free fight with a gang of wharf robbers at Wahu.

It is stated that during the trip to Hankow an armed British Naval guard had to be taken on board owing to the fear of the piracy of over $700,000 in silver which was part of the cargo. The crew rested a sampan coolla who was at port board.

ar-

They took him to Tating, and at that place put him ashore after muleting him in the sum of $1 for his fare.

Coolie's Revenge Apparently, the sampan coolie was a member of the wharf robbers' gang and he and his friends sought revenge. Concealing themselves on the "Tuckwo" at Wuhu, they imme. diately set upon the crew alien one of their number was apprehended, and a veritable batile with bamboos and sticks followed in which several were injured, the boatswain in parti- cular being badly hurt.

The robbers made off as BOON as the ship's syren was sounded; having stolen all they could carry away.
