[Dr "Rover."I

South China 'Athlótic» Associa~!! tion of Hong Kong_opened their soccer season at Caroline Hill yesterday with a splendid match against Loh Hwa, Shanghai's "crack" Chinese team, the mem- bers of which had just returned from new laurels gained in

Manila

This "unofficial" interport match resulted in a victory for the local players by 8 goals, to 1. Teams:

South China A.A.: Pau Ka- ping; Li Tin-sang, Lau Kau; Leung Yin-taan, Wong Meo-shun, Leung Wing-chiu; Lai Ting-choy, Pau Ka-chuen, Fung King-cheung, Lau, Mau, Ip Pak-wa.

Loh Hwa: H. H. Chow; Y: S. An, S. M. Lee; P. Chen, K. S. Liang, C. W. Chen; K. H. Chen, Y: T. Chen, L. K. Tai, W. T. Lee (formerly Li Wai-tong of Hong Kong), P. H. Chen.

Referee: Mr. Chan So, Hong Kong.

Comments.

There is no doubt whenever the Chinese teams are engaged the football is very interesting, and the match throughout was of a fast and clever description, at times despite the rotten conditions as the ball often flashed' past the players at a great pace.

The Athletic did not field full strength of last year, and without full strength will not be the force they were although they are still a very capable side. The half back line in the match on Satur- day was the strength of the team, although Pau in goal saved many awkward shots.

The forward play was variable. The veteran centre forward, Wong Pak-cheong, was the best of the fine, and Tso and Chen were brilliant only in flashes. The tat being the steadier of two good insides were ordinary. Lai Yuk-

backs.

The League were handicapped by the absentees and the Army Small Units men were obviously tired although both did well."
