Lord Burghley of England won first place in the 400-metre hurdles at the Olympic games by covering the distance in 63.2-5 seconds-a.world's record. But his greatest victory was in winning the hand of the beautiful Lady Mary Montague Douglas Scott (inset), fourth, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch. The engagement was announced by Lady Mary's parents simultaneously with word of Lord Burghley's success at Amsterdam.
