PICTURES OF LOCAL INTEREST

Here are three snapshots of "life" AN ALL-ROUND-THE-YEAR CRUISER, WITH CHINESE RIG, SEEN IN ALL PARTS OF THE COLONY'S WATERS AND ELSEWHERE. aboard the "Dorothy II," one of the Chinese rigged cruisers of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. In the centre is a group of the "crew," taken amidships, being (left to right), the boatswain, the skipper, and the boatswain's mate. The photo, on the left is of the "Dorothy II" in full sail, as seen from the side; that on the right is as seen from another angle.

JOURNEY THROUGH SOUTH CHINA.-- The first of a serica of photos taken by Dr. A. Cannon of Hong Kong, who travelled through Tongking, Kwangsi and Kwangtung during the strike and boycott. Above is the Customs statiori at Langson, just inside the Gate of China, at the Kwangsi frontier. From here Dr. and Mrs. Cannon proceeded by various modes of transport through much of unknown China. A turtle weighing

TURTLE HUNTING IN HONG KONG, A SPORT WHICH SELDOM BRINGS SUCCESS.. A TURTLE WEIGHING 225 LBS. WAS CAUGHT RECENTLY BUT NOT MADE INTO SOUP. IT WAS RELEASED. 226,lba. was caught on one of the neighbouring islands which are included in the Colony of Hong Kong. In the photo on the left is seen, in the background (left corner), the launch in which two Europeans went out. On the sandy beach is seen the remarkable track along which the turtle travelled. A good idea of the size of the turtle can be obtained from the picture in the centre with the hauling gear, tackle etc. Note the hole made by the turtle's "fin." On the right are further traces of turtle life. Near the "hole" on the bench are the places where turtle eggs are buried, at the foot of a rocky cliff. The turtle was put on the launch, taken to Hong Kong, weighed and then set free in the harbour.
