Scientists Cross the Gobi..
Here is the first photo of the Roy Chapman Andrews expedition in the heart of the Gobi desert. The picture shows the party halting for tiffin at the top of the Kalgan Pass, the gateway to Manchuria used centuries ago by Genghis Khan. Young Ed Walsh, the son of Big Ed of White Sox fame, who revived memories of old Yankee Stadium days.
For this youngster with a right arm of braided steel, a month out of the classic halls of Notre Dame, had turned back the crowding years and shawed the kind of stuff that made Big Ed the greatest spitball pitcher: of his time and one of the greatest of all time.For five innings he held. the Tanks in the hollow of his big hand, hitless and runless.
