With acknowledgments to "Reynolds.") HOW TO GET ON. Here is a nice little, cartoon which will open the eyes of our military men out here. It shows at a glance the progress one can make in the Army. "Join the Army and see the World," used to be the slogan. Now it is, "Join the Army and get to be, a No. 1 Copper." This job is not no difficult to attain as one would imagine, us the picture shows. Even our No. 1 Copper in Hong Kong is not a real Copper in the spirit of the term, though he did not secure his billet through his Army service. He is an important person, though, being the No. 1 Fire- man as well as the No. 1 Copper. The man who holds down this job in England is Earl Byng, of Vimy, a famous soldier. Hence the cartoon.
SITTING OUT ON THE BEACH.-Mг. Wm. Anderson and Mrs. Wm. Anderson (extreme right) in their pavilion at Repulse Bay bathing beach, with a friend, sitting out and enjoying the breeze.
UNIQUE DECORATIONS. At the Methodist Church, Yunnanfu, on July 18; for the wedding of the Rev. K. W. May and Miss C. M. Dymond. The decoration was on the plan of an archway of bamboos up the aisle which met over- head, and where the bride and bridegroom stood, there was a canopy of bamboo from which was suspended a large bell covered with green and decorated with white flowers. The aisle was covered with pine needles over which were strewn nasturtium blooms.

ALL THAT CAN BE SEEN OF A 9,000 TONS STEAMER. Only the davits of the French 8.5. "Cap Lay" are standing (left foreground) out of the water, as seen in this photo. She was dashed against the "needles" cliff in the background on July 15 in the first typhoon of the season to visit this part of the China coast, passing within 100 miles of Hong Kong on July 14 but going much nearer Halphong, in Indo-China. The "Cap Lay" went ashore at Henrietta Pass in Baie d'Along. A large number lost their lives, including the ship's surgeon. Many passengers were torn by the waves from the rock to fall back into the water between the base of the declivity and the sinking ship.
