Mr. Roe was the first Briton to By and his flight in 1907 was the first in the British Isles.

It took place at Brooklands in 1907 on a biplane driven by a 7-h.p, motor-cycle engine.

The 'plane travelled only a few yards.

As a result Mr. Roe was asked to leave Brooklands by the authorities, who could see no good, but much danger in further experiments.

Mr. Roe then went to Lea Marshes, where he built and flew a triplane fitted with a 7 h.p. en- gine.

A WEEK'S PAPERS IN ONE

“OVERLAND CHINA MAILTM” ILLUSTRATED.

.

CHINA NEWS, LOCAL NEWS

AND ALL THE NEWS

SEND

IT HOME!

Home papers have commented at length on the passing of Peking under the Nationalist rule and the claim by the Nanking authorities to be the de facto government for the whole of China. The Nationalist declaration to "friendly nations of the world" has caused a stir in more than one capital.

As it has always endeavoured to do, the "Overland. China Mail" this week fills the gaps in the information supplied to people in other parts of the world.

A copy will be very much appreciated. All the China cables, the despatches of importance, articles which explain matters to non-Chinese, and copious explanations will be found in the "Overland."

The complicated state of affairs is described in such a way as will be understood by all.

The "Overland"

of local events.

the only illustrated weekly summary Among this week's features are the reports of two Courts Martial, a number of public functions, and the concluding articles by Mr. Lo Tung-fan, B.A., on Confucianism. Readers who have read the complete paper by Mr. Lo should obtain the whole bound together in the "Overland."

WHEN YOU GO ON LEAVE,

Hong Kong's spring exodus has begun. Are you going Home on leave this year? If you are, you will be surprised by the number of persons who will ask you about China and Hong Kong. You will be astonished at the number and type of silly questions put to you in all good faith. And you will have to admit reluctantly (if only to yourself) that you are not quite certain. Will you be believed, though? Keep in touch with Hong Kong and China by having the "Overland China Mail" sent to you for a stipulated period.

By spending a little time while you are on holiday, you ́ can keep yourself well informed if you have the “Overland.”: The articles which you will seek are written to help non Chinese to understand. In any case, you will not regret, from your own point of view, being posted with the main develop- ments (reported in brief) while you are away.

"READY" NOW.
