BIDS RECEIVED."""

Washington, March 10. Announcing reception of bids

the totaling $3,743,661.50 for three remaining Government own. ed Pacilc Coast cargo lines, com- prising thirty-nino vessels, aggre- gating 354,000 dead weight tons, the Shipping Board to-day moved o step further in consummating sale of these services under the adver- tisements calling for the new inter- change of ports provision. All bide received were on "contract" No. 1, calling for guarantees to maintain the service for five years, although the specifications provid- ed for bidding under alternate plans of five or ten-year period of operation.

Opening of the bids revealed only one bidder for each of the servicea. except in the case of the Puget Sound Line, for which the board got two tenders, though a Joint bid was received on the line out of San

Francisco.

The bids include the joint tender of $1,981,756 from the Matson Navigation Co, and the American' Hawaiian Steamship Co. for the twenty-one vessels of the Ameri- can Australia Orient Line; a bid of $1,065,000 from K. D. Dawson, on behalf of a new corporation to ha formed, for the eleven vessels of the Oregon Oriental Line, and two | bids of 3696,906 and $670,357, res- pectively, from Puget Sound inter- ests on behalf of a new corporation to be known as Tacoma Oriental Steamship Co. and the Admiral Oriental Line for the Amerlenn Oriental Mail Service.

No Objection.

Before reaching final action the board must submit the bids to the Senate Committer on Commerce for review in accordance with its re- quest following hearings on the

to Janes resolution, designed to pre- vent the sale. Immediately upon opening these bids Chairman T. V. O'Connor referred them to the Merchant Fleet Corporation for study and report, after which the board will consider them and sub- sequently submit the tenders to the committee.
