He was Mr. W. G. Lawson, the Standard Oil Co., owners of the launch "Katonah." Cross-examined by Mr. G. K. Hall Bratton, who ap-| peared for Captain G. D. S. Mills) of the China Navigation Co.'s (Butterfield & Swire) "Taming." Mr. Lawson persisted that he was long enough on the deck of the, "Katonah" (at the time of its collision with the "Taming"); to hear the cuss words from the, "Taming."

Taking of evidence was completed this morning and the verdict will be given this afternoon.

When Undressing.

The Court, comprising Comdr. J. B. Newill, D.S.O., R.N. (Marine Magistrate), Lt.-Comdr.. Ivor Far- rant, (H.M.S. "Hermos"), Captain

D. G. Burleigh (a.s. "Chipshing"),

| Captain W. H. Walker (8.5. "Kwong Tung") and Captain A. Hall (3.9. "Pheumpenh"), sat to inquire into} the circumstances attending a col- lision, outside Capsuimun Pass (the) western entrance to Hong Kong harbour), on the night of March 28-29.

The Taming" was coming down from Canton and the "Katonah" going up, Lashed to the latter, was the steel lighter "Vermont."

Mr. Lawson told the Court that he held a master mariner's certi- ficate but he was on the "Katonah" as a passenger. He was undress- ing when he heard a blast and the engines put full astern; he then rushed forward and saw a ship.

Expert Evidence.

As was the case yesterday, this morning's proceedings were charac- terised by sharp passages between Mr. Brutton and Mr. G. S. Hugh- Jones who appeared for the owners, coxswain and crew of the "Katonah."

Mr. R. K. Duncan, head of the iron works department of Talkoo Dock, was called to give by Mr. Brutton expert evidence. He de- scribed the position of the damage on the "Taming'a" starboard side and said that there was no damago whatever outside that space. He did not see any sign of scraping. He had seen both the "Taming" and the lighter "Vermont" and he
