In the last race he was again on the favourite, but was defeated by Mr. Harriman, who had just made his debut over the slicks in Hong Kong. Mr. Harri- man pleased his supporters-by riding a finish characteristic of his races on the flat.
As was
to be expected, divi. dends were small in the first three races. Backers of the winning pony in the other two events were Agreeably surprised by the edds returned.
Although the rain kept a few away, the cash sweeps were well supported and the special $1 sweep prizes were pleasing.
Big Silver Cups. Arrangements were well up to the Hunt standard and matters. were carried out expeditiously.
Four massive siver trophies were on display outside the judge's box. The biggest was the Grand National Cup, to be held for a year by the winner: and the replica which is won outright was much bigger than usual replicas. The other two cups were pre- sented by Mr. W. T. Stanton who is now on leave, and Mr.."James Pigg."
The size of fields ranged from five to eight. The jumping was Conse- extraordinarily god..
quently, there was no upset, and the racing had its exciting mo- ments in spite of the preponder- ance of favourites..
