ta obvious merits commend it to the many who use it. It contains more than 24,000 references to shipping and shipbuilding, but is so arranged that it is nefther buiky nor abstruse, The system of index- Ing is probably the most efficient that could be devised, and makes the task of finding the information required as light as possible.

The Various Sections. The first section gives Informa-] tion concerning the Admiralty and, various other Government depart- ments, including the Board of Trade and Ministry of Transport, followed by particulars of the classification societies. Next is the shipowners section, which has been further improved this year by the addition of cross-references. This section occupies 503 pages. Ship- builders, shiprepairers, and marine engine builders come next; after which there is a list of consulting! marine engineers and naval arch- itects, and a directory of trade and technical associations and in- stitutions. Lastly, the indices-five In number. Their titles, serve to indicate their scope, and may be given fo show how admirably the search for information is assist- ed:-General index: index to the names of shipowners, shipbuilders, etc., alphabetically arranged in order of countries and towns: index to telegraphic addresses: por- sonal index of directors, partners; and chief officials; and the ship index,
