Morehouse served his apprentice. ¡ ship on the aquare-rigged sailling ships which sailed from St. John, New Brunswick, and for eight years was on ships engaged in trade with China. During the Spanish-American war he was en- gaged in carrying troops to the Philippine Islands.

Captain Morehouse has had more than the usual number of in- teresting experiences at sea. His two most prized possessions are medals which he received for rescuing the crew of the Dutch schooner "Anna” in mid-Atlantic: One of the medals is of gold and i was presented to him by the Holland Society and the other, of bronze, is the gift of the Queen of the Netherlands.

A Happy Family. The 344 passengers on the liner "Belgenland" are as one big, amiable family, Captain William A. Morehouse, skipper of the vessel, declared in an interview with B Press representative. Everybody knows everybody else on board, and long ago reached that intimate stage where titles and rank were forgotten and first names generally used.

The "Belgenland" boasts a number of persons prominent in the social and business life of several mountries. Good fortune has attended the entire trip, Cap tain Morehouse stated, and there has been very little sickness and no deaths,
