If "coming from New Zealand" carries the old mark of supremacy this lad Tom Heeney ought to go well up among the heavy weight challengers, with just a little more experience, writes Robert Edgren.
Heeney developed in New Zen- land in much the same way that Bob Fitzsimmons, still regarded as others with a single exception. He the greatest fighter of the past doesn't claim that Tom is another contury, did years ago. There are Bob Fitzsimmons. Perhaps he's no bigger in the shoulders. Jim Jeffries says that he once picked up Lanky Bob'a cont while training with Fitz, at Harbin Springs, put it on and didn't notice the difference, From the waist up Bob was a real heavyweight.
Harney's Principal Fights. Heeney has the record of a fight ing man. He played cricket and football at school, and was offered berth in the "All Blacks," the leading football team of Australia. That means that he was something
of a star.
But he led boxing better than football. While working as A blacksmith he began boxing with his brother Jack, who was amateur welterweight champion of New Zea- land. After boxing a while as an amateur Heeney applied for a per mit to fight professionally. In New Zealand professional boxing was handled by a committee of well- known business men of which Ray Nolan, Prosecuting Attorney of Wellington, New Zealand, WAS chairman.

another year."
Physically. Heeney laoks the goods. He is stockily built, with powerful, fast legs, a strong body, fair, shoulders and arms, a short, thick neck, wide Jaw that looks built for taking punches, and a set of teeth that would make the for- tune of a moving picture actor. Tom chased Paolino all over Europe without being able to per suade the engy Descamps to give him a match with the Woodchopper. Then he left for America.
Since arriving in thie country Heeney has developed steadily. Charlie Harvey, his manager, has a fad of picking up English and Irish- and Australian fighters, and to date. he never had a "sour one." A Preacher in Mecm. There cannot be any doubt as to the vital part played by small chances in the big developments of the career of the Prophet of Allah,
instance, the Hegira, the flight from Mecca to Medina which opened up a new era in the world's history. Mohammed and his few faithful followers were having a very bad time at the hands of their persecutors, the powerful priestly Koreish sect who virtually ruled Mecca Death had robbed him of two of his stoutest adherents and supporters, his admirable first wife, Khadija, and his uncle, Abu Talib, the man who was his shield against the incensed Koreish.
