REHEARING OF A CASE IN KOWLOON.

LEGAL POINT RAISED.

At the Kowloon Maglatracy yes terday afternoon, Mr. W. Schofield granted a re-hearing of the case in which three Chinese boatmen were sentenced for the unlawful posses-1 aion of 500 tuels of prepared non- Government opium on board their fishing boat.

The application for the re-hear- ing was made by Mr. A. E. Hall, and opposed by Mr. G. R. Sayer, Superintendent of Imports and Ex- ports, who prosecuted.

It will be recalled that at the original hearing of the case the first accused who was the master of the fishing boat was fined $4,000 and his two employees $1,000 each. Mr. Hall submitted that the con- viction of the accused was not in
