HANKOW IN JEOPARDY.
"CHRISTIAN GENERAL'S" ADVANCE.
Nanking's Nationalist Government and all its allies have turned the tide of battle against the Fengtien federation to auch an extent that offensives are being waged on several fronts in various parts of China.
In only one instance--which at the moment has negligible in- fluence on the nation-wide situationa
are the friends of Peking in the ascendancy.
Dramatic developments on the Yangtze River are predicted. Further north, decisive actions are expected. But in the far south (including Kwangtung and Kwangsi) there is as yet no indication of war with other provinces.
PRECIPITATE RETREAT.
Although General Tang Seng. thi of Hunkow has yet to an;; nounce that he is in alliance with the Peking Government, the very | fact that he is threatened by the Nanking Nationalists (who are at war with the Fengtien warlords of Peking) points to the direction from which he hopes for relief. Hemmed in by armies which acknowledge the authority of Nanking, General Tang Seng-chi is weeking a solitary watch in the beart of the country.
