OFFER OF DEFERRED STOCK.

The announcement that the Pen- Insular and Oriental Steam Navi- gation Company is about to offer £1,000,000 daferred stock at 200, which is equivalent to a bonus rate, to existing Preferred and Deferred stockholders, has been received with much favour. The fact that the call for capital is mainly for new ton- nage building and about to be built is regarded as evidence of a bright er outlook for shipping, for it will be remembered that at the last meeting of the Company Lord Inchcape indicated the intention to replace Bome of the Company's older tonnage "when conditions be- came more, normal." That there has been an Improvement in the seaborne trade of the country is testified by the expansion of cargo entries and clearances. Although in some measure the business of the P. and O. is of a specialised char- acter, the same broad influences operate as in other branches of shipping, and already it has been noted that on the Stock Exchange shipping shares have advanced dur- stantial extent. Employment for tonnage of all kinds has been better, and the progressive revival of in- dustry which now, it may fairly be hoped, is under way, promises to aid the recovery.-"China Express and Telegraph."

Nickel Galleon For Minister

Fashioned from solid Canadian nickel this model of a fifteenth galleon WAS recently handled in shipment to Canada by the Canadian Pacific Express Company and forwarded to the Hon. Charles McCrea, Minister of Mines in the Ontario Government. The ship was manufactured in England at the request of the Mond 'Nickle Company which concern presented it to the Minister of Mines.

Every detail In the reproduction of this model has been adhered to and during the entire construction nothing was used but pure Canadian nickel. On account of the hardness of this mactal the model was produced only after many weeks of work on the part of expert metal-workers. The ship standa about two feet counting the base which is ornamented with curling waves and battle towers. The model is valued at $3,000.
