"HUBRO" ARRIVES IN PORT.
Norwegian "Hubro," which was previously reported to be adrift about fifty miles off Amoy, was towed into Hong Kong harbour yesterday afternoon by the .s. "Heron."
Those on board have experi- enced considerable danger and it had been necessary to keep con- tinual watch since last Sunday when engine trouble developed and the ship' was almost entirely nt the mercy of the waves. Very heavy seas were running at the time and, owing to the dan ger of the disabled ship. being carried ashore, the crew were obliged to fix up "rigging" with tarpaulin.
Previously, it had been found necessary to use wood fittings of the ship as fuel for the engines which, owing to the trouble ex- perienced, were consuming the coal supplies at an alarming rate. The "Hubro" at the time was on a voyage (on ballast) between Swatow and Keelung. Owing to the engine trouble an endeavour was made to reach Amoy but the tremendous force of the wind and the heavy scas prevented the Captain achieving his purpose. The ship was then found to be drifting.
