"SHASI" AND "COCKCHAFER" VICTIMS.

THE CHINA MAIL.

The "C. C. Post" (Hankow) of September 1 reports:-

The 3.8. "Shasi" arrived in port yesterday and reports, a we feared, having been made a target by southern soldiers' be- low Wuhu. The firing com- menced thirteen miles above Nanking at a place called Hehshansan Bluff and continued from 2.30 till the steamer ar- rived in Wuhu at four o'clock. The rifle fire was of the same concentrated character as favour- ed the "Kutwo" and "Slangwo" but fortunately no one was wounded.
