Dr. Williams said that there were three great forces in the world to-day which made for the interchange of thought — the sciences of business, commerce and journalism. The greatest of these was journalism. This was a thing that all journalists should keep, in mind when writing, espe- cially when disseminating their views between nations.
He was proud of the progress which the Chinese Press was making under the difficulties with which they had to put up with and he was glad that his own students were contributing to- ward the ideals of the Fress in China, both Chinese and foreign and were keeping in mind the tra ditions of journalism which were taught them in his school of journalism.
Dr. Williams then spoke at length on the coming Pan-Pacific Press Congress, which was called at the Geneva meeting of the Press Congress of the World a year ago. This was being held under the auspices of the Pan- Pacific Union and should be a great factor in bringing the vari- ous countries closer together as the journalists of all the countries bordering on the Pacific would be brought into personal contact and could speak their minds openly,
The speaker said that he would' not attempt to say anything on Chinese politics as that was a subject which no one could under- derstand. However, he thought that he was expressing the spirit of all Americans when he said that they hoped that out of all the difficulties would come 2 Chins which all could be proud of.
In closing Dr. Williams said. that there were three principles which all journalists should re- member at all times. These were
