The half-yearly return for the Strafts Settlement appears to be of little value locally and of no value outside Malaya. In it the trade of Beef Sirloin the Colony is shown with three groups of countries: (a) foreign countries, (b) F. M. S., (c) Non- Federated Malay States: it also shows Inter-Settlement or Inter- Port trade. It is compiled from information obtained from declara- tions handed in at the Import and Export Office in the Colony regard- ing goods consigned by rail or ship, and it relies on other administra- tions in Malaya for information as to goods carried by road.
A comparison of the figurés given in this return of the trade with the F.M.S. for the first half of 1925 with the figures given in the F.M.S. for the corresponding returns period reveals many and serious discrepancies.
