Mr. Coolidge from the presidential There are 400 boys this year at race, but the majority of the newspapers are of the opinion that the pronouncement is a care- fully-calculated attempt to side- track his Republican' rivals and lay the ghost of a third term tradition.

It is argued that Mr. Coolidge will be in a strong position if he

is compelled by the general wish; of the country to accept nomina- tion for a third term against his apparent wish and intention.

Republicans in New York State, with a few exceptions, were thun- derstruck at the pronouncement. Though some are in the closest touch with the President, none had the slightest-inkling that the bombshell was to be thrown into} the political arena.

CRASH IN DANUBE.

The pilot, as on the two previous: and the navigator was Flying attempts, was Lieutenant Carri

started on another Air Force non- The fact that Carr had actually stop flight to India had been kept very secret from the British public.

The most recent intimation of the Air Ministry's intentions was published on July 29 and stated that the flight would probably be early in September when there would be trouble with the mon-1

goon,

Hence Vienna's telegram to- day announcing a crash in the Danube to a British military machine, with two officers who left England at noon yesterday for India, was most surprising.“

The telegram added that one officer was severely and the other slightly injured, and both were conveyed to Ashach near Linz.

The crash is attributed to over- heating of the engine. The ma chine lies in the Danube badly damaged.

Enquiry at the Air Ministry confirmed the news of the start of Carr, this time accompanied by Flying Officer E. C. Dearth. They left Cranwell Aerodrome yesterday afternoon in a Hawker- Horsley machine-Reuter.
