Sitting as Coroner at the Central Magistracy yesterday afternoon, Mr. R. E. Lindsell held an inquest on a Chinese prisoner. The deceased was sen- tenced to six weeks' jail for larceny on June 13

A long drawn which Ah Con, a youthful-looking Chinese, was charged with being prohibited Immigrant and failure to pass the dictation test prescribed by the Act was concluded at Perth, W. A. last month, when the accused was sentenced to four months' im- prisonment. pending deportation proceedings being taken. The de fence stated that the acensed ar rived in Fremantle from China in 1899, and was thus exempt from the provisions of the Immigration Act (1901). The Magistrate was satisfied that Ah Con arrived about 1008. A stay of proceedings for 28 days was granted.
The current number of the "Silver Wolf" contains interesting records of activities of local. Scouts. Girl Guides. the recently formed troop of Rangers and Brownies. The Commissioner, the Rev. G. T. Waldegrave, writes that the benefit of having a large and representative Council has already been felt and that the great ad- vance made augurs well for the future. It is hoped later, when financial considerations permit, to found a Scout Officers' Training centre. The Association would like to send at least a patrol of Scouts from Hong Kong to repre- sent the Colony at the Imperial and World Jamborees In 1929, but again finance is the crucial point. Reference is also made In the "Silver Wolf" to the hard work done on behalf of the Association by the President Dr. R. H. Kate- wall, and by Sir Henry Pollock.
It has been decided that the next production of the Philhar- monic Society will be "Merrie England." Edward German's light opera which has retained through the years the freshness of its original appeal when it was first produced at the Savoy' in 1902. The cast has not yet been com pleted and Mr. W.
