An amazing Indication of the rise in rents in the City of London has been brought to my notice, saya the London correspondent of a Liverpool paper. A friend of mine who has carried on a flourishing- bookselling and newspaper business in the heart of the shipping quarter of the City has just terminated his lease. His rent was £200 a When he went to renew it, the land lord said, "The rent will now be £000 a year!" My friend has retir. ed to the country to grow water cross, and his premises will no doubt shortly be taken over by some wealthy foreign bank.
