"COMPROMISE” SHOWING

TO-DAY.

Aa Joan Trevoré, heroine of Jay Gelzer's dramatic story, Irena Rich appears as a sensitive weman filled with ideals and definitely set against compromising with the world.

Her selfish little half-sister, most admirably portrayed by Pauline Garon, lures Jean's husband (Clive Brook) away from her; and Joan's suffering and humiliation are keen. Their old father, (Winter Hall) shelters Joan during her husband's absence, and gradually she begins to realise that in order to derive

any happiness in the world, one must make adjustments. It is only after she has quarrelled bitterly with her sister Nathalie, beating her in her rage with a riding crop; and seeing her husband, bruised and repentant after a terrifio tornado, come to beg forgiveness, that Joan compromises and starts over again with a fuller sense of understanding,

"The Loves of Pharaoh,"

In producing "The Loves of Pha- raoh," Ernest Lubitsch, who made Deception," "Passion" and "Gypsy Blood," has accomplished his great- est screen achievement.

New York newspaper critics were unanimous in acclaiming the pic- ture as one of the masterpicees of the screen. The big battle scenes were directed by Mr. Lubitsch from an observation station. The people were drilled in groups of Afty and their movements before the camera were directed by more than a hundred Heutenants'or sub- directors working at signal stations, all in direct communication with the producer.

Speaking of Dagny Servecs, who plays the role of, Theonís in the picture, Mr., Lubitsch, stated that he picked his leading actresses with regard, solely for their ability to portray properly the characters. In Miss Servaes, he found a combina- tion of ability and beauty, **
