The match was a benefit one - for George Collins, the Gravesend -right-arm fast bowler who, in 1922, captured all ten wickets for Kent in the second innings of Notts at Dover for 65 runs. In more recent years he has been more useful to the county as a bowler. It may be recalled that quite a flutter was caused in the clovecotes of county cricket last year by an announcement that Kent had intimated to their three leading professionals, Seymour, Hubble, and Collins, that their services might not be required re- gularly during the 1927 season.

As soon as you have attained a! reasonable efficiency in tennis (Major Rendall continues), you will have to turn your attention to consideration of pace control. The moment for doing so may be said to have arrived when your ability to maintain court position, use your feet, and make strokes is (2) sufficiently reliable to keep up rallies. You want to beat the fellow opposite. Hitherto you may have supposed that, having learnt to hit the ball with the maximum of force and keep it in the court, your tennis education would be complete.

Disputes about the acquiring of leases to territory in China have led to wars be- tween the various Powers. In 1904 Russia proposed to con- struct a railway linking up Ta Lien Wan with the Siberian Railway, and the Russo-Japanese War ensued. In 1914 war broke out be- tween Japan and Germany on account of Tsingtao.. It is imperative therefore in the interest of peace in the Far East that all leased territory should be resumed.
