the lightness of a Constance Tal- madge, yet she retains the sym- pathy of the audience, and gives her role a whimsical quality that is seldom achieved in a comedy of the type of this story by Carey, Wilson.

Lew Cody is again seen with Miss Shearer. Cody's change from villain roles to light comedy has been achieved with very little fanfare and blowing of trumpets, but he has created an individual style that no one else, con ap- proach,

Willard Louis has the fattest part of his career us John Sloden. He is the funniest fat man on the screen.

Mabel Van Buren, Karl Dane, Gwen Lee, Estelle Clark and Ernest Gillen are all deserving of special notice that space does not permit. Hope Loring and Louls: B. Lighton adapted the story to the screen.

‚"PARIS” '-TO-DAY.

The new production, a vivid mystery drama of the Paris underworld, is played by a notable cast hended by Charles Ray as an American tourist enmeshed in an Apache plot, and Joan Crawford as a fiery Apache dancer. Douglas Gilmore, fantous in the stage pros duction, White Cargo," plays "The Cat," sinister ruler of the French underworld, and lover of the dancer. The cast includes such artistes as Mme. Rose Dione, Michael Vasaroff, Jean Galeron. and other well-known players.

Among the elaborate scenes ara a sensational Apache dance that | Miss Crawford and Gilmore stage, also a desperate battle between the heroine and another woman in a French dive for the love of the Apache ruler.

Goulding, who wrote and direct- ed the new story, recently scored a triumph with "Sally, Irene and Mary." In the new play Ray is seen in a different role from any, in his career, as he abandons 'the "country boy" type entirely to appear as a dress-suited debonair man of the world in Paris on s "lark." Miss Crawford, as the Apache girl, also is seen in a role startlingly different from that in "Sally, Irene and Mary," in which she recently, won note..
