Mr. Bingley, giving his decl- sion, said it seemed to him an extraordiary responsibility to put upon magistrates to ask them to. override the decisions and 'views of the parents of young people in such a matter. The Act did |not give the magistrates any help or direction in coming to a deci- sion. Dealing with the parents' objections, Mr. Bingley said the young couple's combined income would be £800 a year, so that! from that point of view there was no valid objection to the mar riage. The parents also said the boy was unstable. Of course het was at his age; and as for his stopping out late at night-he was courting his girl. As he could not see any valid objection to the marriage, he gave his con- sent, and said he only hoped that the young couple would be happy.
