SCOTLAND WINS.

Not a Mystery Any Longer.

TEAM TOO GOOD FOR CHINA.

Scotland's "mystery" team

won the "Sunday Herald" International Football Chargy Cpp on Saturday; defeating China in the final by 5 goals to 2 but there is no longer and mystery, about the team.

Scotia's surprise packet was the Inclusion of four men who had hitherto, not competed ander the HK.FA. The "star" was Connolly As left of the shamemanians. wing, he showed himself lo. Be bet- ter than either Prown of Recreio (the fast en Interport selections, the Rev. F. P. W. Alexander (2nd K.OSB.) and Chan Kwong-fu.. who acoupled that same position in the China team.

Y:

The fact that the Padre stood down even when the Inside partner was McGlinchey of the Borderers speaks volumes. But Connolly is now "known." He played with the 2p/Borderens regimental team, in Egypt and had gone Home before the Battalion came out here last year. As one of the hacky or un- lucky fellow to be called up under class “A” of the Reserve, he was Included in the 1st/Cameronians and thus was able to play amongst old comrader again. -

High Class Soccer.

The other three "new" men were also good in fact Scotland had a better team, built up from a nucleus whieh paved the way to *mooth working and cohesion.

Ching played well but their best was not good enough. The soccer of both sides was of high standard, in a mitch which was remarkably clean.

Connolly did most of the damage. Against such sterling defenders s Leung Yuk-tong and Ng Kam- chun, he gave a display that will long be remembered!.

Literally or Akuratively. he dia y not make rings round then He beat them often and cluded them with ease. From bis centres; Scotia's inside forwards shot hard and ahot accurately.

China's team, picked entirely from the Chinese Athletic Associa tion, caused Scetland's defence an- xious moments at times but, as of yore, the inside forwards were either at fault in their marksman- ship or dalliec just that fateful fraction of second instead of bust- ing away at golli, a

NO CUP THERE!

Mr. Kötewall in a Quandary.

After the game the Hon Mr. R. H. Kotewall, C.M.C., addressed the gathering. Ho said he had been asked to thank Mrs. Dyer for her presence there that evening) to present to the winning team the "Hong Kong Sunday Herald" Cup))

but there was no Cup there and she could present what she liked! The privilege should by right have belonged to Mr. Shaw but with characteristic modesty, or perhaps. it was shyness, that gentleman had asked him to speak instead-as if he (Mr. Kotewall) were not shy. himself (Laughter).

There was a distinguished gathering of local people and hun- dreds crossed over from Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club supplied the majority of the gentlemen riders, quite a few of whom brought back beautiful silver cups as mementoes of their prowess.

After rain over a long. period, the course cut up in places, with the result that the going was on the slow side...

Official Opening.

The track is just under a mile long, almost triangular in shape. with a straight rum in of about 400 yards..

Both the public and members' enclosures were vividly decorated for the occasion of the official opening by H.E. the Governor of Macao (Senhor Artür Tamagnini de Sousa Barbosa), who was 'wel- comed by Commendador Loo Lim- loc (President of the Club) at whose palatial residence, U Un, a Chinese banquet was given to hundreds of guests. on Saturday night, followed by a dance..

Dividends were nearly always good. On a $3 ticket, two pontes paid $420 and $245 respectively.
