Lord Desborough presided over the annual general meeting of the Lawn Tennis Associaiton in Lon don. The meeting was mostly oc- cupied with, consideration of amateur status, and there ware long discussions and many speeches con- cerning the position of the player who also writes on the game. It was the feeling of the meeting that prominent playere should not permitted to employ their prowess at the game for their own pecun ary gain, but no definite law was adopted on the matter: instead, the meeting decided to make recom mendations at the next meeting of the International Federation and to reopen discussion on the subject t a future general meeting of the Lawn Tennis Association, probably during the spring.
Harsh Terms Used. During the debate some of the delegates used harah terms in re-. viesting the position, and one of them referred to the "orgy of" journalism which obtains during Wimbledon. Eventually it was de cided that the delegates of Great Britain at the annual meeting of the International Lawn Tennis Federa tion should be instructed to move or support and to vote for the foNow- ! ing clause in the amateur defini- tion
"An amateur lawn tennis player is specifically prohibited from knowingly playing for a prize with or against any person other than an amateur posing for or permitting the taking of lawn tentis" action film pictures of himself; advertis- ing his nume or permitting his name to be advertised as the author of any book or press article on the game of which he is not the actual author."
The Rule on Writing.
"It was also decided that, the B- tish delegates should move, sup sport, and vote for the following:-)
"Subject to any modifications which may be made in its rules by an association in favour of its own! nationals in its own country, an amateur lawn tennis player who, fa entered as, or is, a competitor in any tournament, match, or com petition is prohibited from writing reports or articles thereon for the daily or weekly press under his own name, initials, or recognisable pseudonym; accepting payment for permitting his name to be mention-
therewith, or lecturing or broadcast- ed, as interviewed for the purpose of press publication in connection ing talks upon the game."
The following will represent the Married against the Single on the Hong Kong Cricket Club ground University ground: F. Jacks, on Saturday at 2.00 p.m. E. 42 H. C. Burgess, G. P.
