London. Dec. 28. Twenty-four sailors of the French barque. "Eugene Schneider" pro ceeding to Ghent from West Africa, are missing as a result of a coll- ston on Christmas night, 30 miles from Portland, with the Elder Dempster steamer "Burutu," which picked up four Frenchmen.

CONCRETE WALL AS RESTING PLACE..

The renovation of the hull of H.M.S. "Victory" has been com pleted, and arrangements have now been completed for the final resting-place of Nelson's old flag- ship.

Professor Callender, one of the organisers of the "Save the Victory" Fund, stated that it has just been decided to build at a cost of £2,000 a concrete wall on which the "Victory" "will per- manently rest in the oldest dry: dock in the world, built at Ports- mouth by Henry VIH. This de cision was taken in order to avoid the flattening of the keel. The wall, which will be ready in about three months, will be 200ft. long and 20in. wide, and will stand

HARBOUR OFFENCES.
