more than a blundering vul- garian:That the girl in the book, reared in an atmosphere of culture and "refinement,, | should fall in love with a man whose only appeal is his magni- floent body is absurd.g Tunney paid a tribute to Mr. Shaw's mentality, but declared that the novel must be regarded as the product of his immature years.

"Tunney Ought to Know." When Mr. Shaw was told of Gene Tunney a refusal to appear in a film version of "Cashel Byron's Profession," he said:

Tunney ought to know more about it than I do.

If he thinks. he can rewrite the book and improve it he had better do so. Tunney is quite right in describing the work as immature, but I am not quite sure. If he knows what the boxers in the nineteenth cen tury, were like. Cashel Byron would be glad to get one guinea for a fight, while Tünney might want. 100,000 dollars for it.

If the book were to be moder- nised for the film, it would upset its character a good deal. It would be rather amusing, though, to bring it up to date, and to make the fight in it that between Dempsey and Tunney.

I have not got time to do it now, but I might do so some time.

The marriage licence clerk at De- troit checked his records at the end of a year under the anew law and found that one couple in every twenty never came back.
